The Outlet Trail Regulations and Restrictions...
In addition to the trail itself, the Friends of the Outlet typically own at least the canal bed (along the north side of the trail) and the land between the trail and the creek; and in many stretches, the Friends own along the south side of the creek as well. However, in a few areas, private interests own property close to the edge of the trail and/or on both ides of the trail. Privately-owned land is particularly close to the trail on the north side of Seneca Mills Falls, and on both sides of the trail just east of Milo Mills. All trail-users are asked to respect "private property" and "no trespassing" signs.
Picnic tables and benches are usually available at the picnic pavilion at Seneca Mills Falls and on the porch of the Visitor Center at the Cascade. Trail toilets are located periodically along the trail. Bring a bag to carry out your trash; and bring your own water - there is no potable water in the gorge. Cell phone coverage can be unreliable; if you wish to stay in contact with others in your party, you may wish to bring walkie-talkies.
Natural areas possess hazards not normally found in your home surroundings, and these hazards may change from year to year: Water erodes areas and exposes new dangers; freezing and thawing and the growth of roots and vines bring new rocks to the surface and cause foundations to crumble; trees fall and branches break... In the summer months, take precautions against mosquitoes, nettles, and poison ivy. In the winter, remember that it can get very cold and icy down in the gorge. You are responsible for your own safety.
Please do not remove any natural or historic objects from the park. Your help in reporting vandalism or trespassing activities would also be greatly appreciated.
Activities explicitly prohibited in the park include: being in the park after sunset, paint ball use of any kind, consuming an alcoholic beverage, trespassing in or on any unattended building, running an unauthorized commercial operation, and operating an unauthorized motorized vehicle on the trail. No ATV's, motorcycles, minicycles, cars or trucks - or other motorized vehicles -- are allowed on the trail, unless specifically authorized for use in trail maintenance or other trail-related activities. Authorized vehicles must display a permit (issued by the Friends) at all times. The Yates County Sheriff's Department patrols the park.

Pets are welcome on the trail. Town of Torrey and Town of Mile leash laws are in effect.
